November 13, 2007

Present: Taylor Butler, Jennifer Gallagher, Larry Hlad, Katherine Kemner, Nancy Lancaster, Steve Libby, Joe Mayton, Molly McClellan, Lee Minix, Rev. Bob and Ruth Partlow, Sarah Southall.

The meeting began at 6pm with prayer and reflection led by Rev. Ruth Partlow.

The minutes of the October 9, 2007 meeting were accepted as presented.

Treasurer’s Report – Accepted as presented.

New Business:

A new budget is needed for 2008. Discussion was given to adding new line items to the budget including Outreach and Millennium Development. Vestry members were encouraged to ask their respective committees what their funding issues might be for 2008. Mrs. Lancaster and Mr. Minix agreed to review the budget. Once these new estimates have been collected, the Vestry will then decide on the need for new budgetary line items.

Mrs. Nancy Lancaster asked for the Vestry’s permission to give Mr. Lee Minix, Treasurer, the authority to sign checks issued from the Church’s budgetary accounts. Mrs. Southall motioned, seconded by Mr. Hlad, that Mr. Lee Minix should be given the authority to sign checks issued from the Church’s budgetary accounts. The motion carried.

Old Business:

Mrs. McClellan reported on the Stewardship campaign. There is a projected $9500 increase from last year. The Vestry thanked Mrs. McClellan for her assistance and hard work throughout this process.

At the next monthly meeting, Rev. Bob Partlow will be presenting a rough draft of the proposed endowment policy.

Committee Reports:

Communication and Administration: Mr. Libby provided an update on the progress of the Search Committee. They are now reviewing an extensive list of candidates. He has also talked with Mrs. Barbara Henley about the issues involved in setting up a Church endowment policy.

Buildings and Grounds: Mrs. Lancaster showed the design from Giles Signs for the new church sign. The total cost for this sign is $2200. Ms. Gallagher moved, seconded by Mrs. Southall, that the Church purchase the sign from the Giles Signs Company. The motion carried. Mrs. Lancaster also suggested having a Clean-Up day at Church after the Holidays. Members would help clean out the storage room in the basement after Church. A Casual Dress day would coincide with the Clean-Up day.

Co-Rectors: Rev. Bob and Rev. Ruth Partlow will be starting an educational program in January for members interested in learning more about becoming chalice bearers, lectors, and lay Eucharistic ministers. Also, five members will be confirmed and/or received at the Dec. 2 service.

Christian Formation: Mr. Hlad shared information about Carolyn Black’s visit concerning Christian formation. She will be working with the Vestry on establishing new Sunday morning service programs.

Young Adults and Youth: The Campus Ministry group is actively involved in many activities. A member of Campus Ministry, Adam Lees, asked to lead a Youth program for High School students. Someone would need to volunteer to work with him.

Parish Life/Outreach: The Olan Mills picture directory sessions are completed. Ms. Gallagher commented that this was a successful event. Sixty families came in to get their pictures taken. Mrs. Kathy Orth will be reviewing the proofs and the directory lay out. Ms. Gallagher also stated that she is certified in CPR. She would like to offer a CPR course to Church members.

Pastoral Care: Mrs. Kemner sent in an article to the Church newsletter to re-instate the Prayer chain. She is also trying to gather volunteers to help supply meals, transportation, and babysitting services during times of crisis.

Long-Range Planning: Mr. Mayton stated that he is working to put together the various needs from each committee representative.

Worship: On Dec. 2, Bishop Buchanan will be at the service. On Christmas Eve, there will be two services. One will be at 5:30pm featuring the Children’s Choir, and the other service will be at 10:30pm featuring the Adult Choir.

The meeting adjourned at 8:15pm after Compline

Respectfully submitted,

Sarah P. Southall, Register
