Stewardship

What is Stewardship?

Because everything is a gift from God, we are only stewards, or managers of all that we have.  Everything belongs to God.  Since we do not have ownership if anything, it is our responsibility to take care of and make good use of what God has entrusted to us.

Stewardship is as much about how we use our time as about what we can bring to God's service/  It is an on going process, very much a part of the Christian grown and development, like learning a skill, trade or profession which we learn and develop.

In our Christian life, Stewardship requires us prayerfully to consider and decide on our giving.  Church Stewardship responsibility requires us to fulfill our duty through skills and time, but for all of the congregation, it will mean financial giving.

Stewardship allow Johns Memorial to plan for its financial needs; expenses such as utilities, payroll, Diocesan Pledge, programs, worship and others as well as determining repairs and maintenance.

Stewardship teaches the happy virtue of gratitude.  We tend to think of ourselves as "self-made."  We forget that all we have, we have received.   Stewardship changes the attitudes, too, for giving is an acknowledgement that "it is God that hath made us and not we ourselves."  Psalm 100:3

The people who give are saying "Thank You," to God for all that they have.   For it is in giving that we truly receive.
